Chicago Transmission opened in 1987 on Lincoln Avenue with a simple promise: rebuild transmissions the right way and stand behind the work for life. Nearly four decades later, that promise is still the most important thing in this shop.

We are independent — not part of a national chain, not owned by a franchise group, not operating under a corporate parts mandate. The same family that opened the doors in 1987 still owns the business. Three of our master technicians have been here for over twenty years. The shop foreman started as an apprentice in the early 90s. When you bring your vehicle to us, the people working on it are not turning over every six months.

What We Do

Transmissions are our specialty — automatic, manual, CVT, dual-clutch, transfer cases, differentials, and clutch work. We service every domestic and import make sold in the United States. Our shop is equipped to handle a quick fluid service in 90 minutes or a complete rebuild on a complex BMW ZF8HP that takes a week.

We also service related driveline components: rear and front differentials, transfer cases on 4WD/AWD vehicles, axles, U-joints, CV joints, driveshafts, and clutches. If a problem touches power flow from the engine to the wheels, we are the right shop.

The free computer diagnostic we offer is genuinely free. There is no obligation, no pressure, and no requirement that you have the work done here. We will tell you what is wrong, what it will cost, and what your realistic options are — including the option to take the report to another shop. We believe the customers who do come back are the ones who chose us because they trusted what we said.
