Professional Grade Trucks, Same Transmission Issues as Chevy β Expert GMC transmission service since 1987. All models, all years. Free diagnostic.
GMC shares its transmissions entirely with Chevrolet β the 4L60E, 6L80, 8L90, and 6T40 appear in Sierra, Yukon, Terrain, and Acadia just as they do across Chevy's lineup. If you own a GMC, your transmission's strengths and weaknesses are identical to the Chevy equivalent.
GMC trucks represent about 15% of our transmission work. The shared GM platform means we always have Sierra and Yukon rebuild kits in stock.
Years to watch: 2006β2013 Sierra/Yukon with 6L80 (pump wear after 80k); 2015β2019 Sierra 1500 with 8L90 (TCC shudder); 2010β2016 Terrain with 6T40/6T45 (solenoid failures); 2004β2012 Canyon with 4L60E (sun shell).
Our technicians know these failure modes by heart β we rebuild and repair them every week.
Transmission: 6L80
The 6L80 in Sierra 1500 and Yukon develops pump slide wear leading to low line pressure, especially when warm. Same failure mode as Silverado.
Symptoms: Delayed engagement when warm, slipping shifts, P0868 low fluid pressure code, transmission overheating
Transmission: 8L90
Sierra 1500 and Yukon with 8L90 share the same TCC shudder issue as Silverado. GM issued a Dexron HP fluid spec change but many units need torque converter replacement.
Symptoms: Shudder at 25β50 mph under light throttle, vibration when maintaining highway speed, no symptom under hard acceleration
Transmission: 6T45
Terrain and Acadia with 6T45 develop valve body solenoid and checkball wear, causing erratic shifts and P07xx codes.
Symptoms: Harsh or delayed upshifts, hunting between gears, check engine light, slipping under moderate load
Transmission: 4L60E
Older Canyon and Envoy with 4L60E share the same sun shell breakage vulnerability as all GM trucks of that era.
Symptoms: Sudden loss of 3rd/4th gear, metal debris in fluid, no movement after failure
6L80 rebuild: $1,900β2,500 | 8L90 TCC service: $149β199 | 8L90 rebuild: $2,300β2,900 | 6T40/45 solenoid: $400β600 | 4L60E rebuild: $1,500β2,000. Call for exact quote on your specific vehicle.

"Family owned and it shows. They treated my car like it was their own. The lifetime warranty on my rebuild gives me total peace of mind. Highly recommend."
Yes, completely. Sierra 1500 and Silverado 1500 of the same year use identical transmissions. All parts, diagnostics, and repair procedures are the same.
The 8L90 TCC shudder in Yukons is common and well-understood. Try a Dexron HP fluid exchange first. If it persists, expect torque converter replacement ($550β850). Not an emergency, but don't ignore it long-term.
3β4 business days. We stock all kits for same-week completion.
P0700 on a Terrain with 6T40 almost always points to a solenoid failure. We'll pull the specific DTC to identify which solenoid ($400β600). Ignoring it leads to valve body damage.
