The B7TA is infamous for 3rd gear clutch failure due to undersized friction packs. This became the subject of a Honda class-action lawsuit. The 3rd clutch wave plate warps under heat, causing catastrophic failure.

B7TA rebuild always includes upgraded 3rd gear clutch pack with additional friction plates (5-plate upgrade over OEM 4-plate). Valve body is stripped, cleaned, and all solenoids replaced. Thrust washers are upgraded to hardened steel. All clutch packs are replaced. Torque converter is rebuilt with new friction material.
Change ATF-Z1 every 30,000 miles. The B7TA runs hot under hard acceleration — if you tow or drive aggressively, consider a trans cooler upgrade. Check for 3rd gear clutch codes immediately if you feel any RPM flare during the 2-3 shift.
