Mitsubishi's transmissions are functional but reflect an older design philosophy. The INVECS-II electronically controlled automatic in Outlander and Galant develops solenoid and valve body issues at high mileage. The CVT used in Lancer and Eclipse Cross (Jatco-sourced) shares the same failure modes as Nissan's CVT lineup.

INVECS-II (2007–2016 Outlander, Galant) develops solenoid A and B failures causing erratic shifts and check engine codes.

V4AW3 four-speed automatic in 1996–2005 Montero and older Outlander develops shift solenoid failures causing erratic shift patterns.
Symptoms: Delayed shifts, stuck in single gear, P0750-P0760 codes, harsh engagement into drive
Transmission: Jatco CVT
Mitsubishi sources Jatco CVTs for Lancer and Eclipse Cross — same JF015E/JF016E units with the same belt wear issues seen in Nissan.
Symptoms: Shudder during acceleration, hesitation from stop, CVT warning light, loss of acceleration

Older Lancer CVT develops chain wear causing ratio monitoring faults and shudder at highway speeds.

The Jatco CVT in Eclipse Cross is the same problematic unit in Nissan Rogue and Altima. Regular fluid changes (every 30k miles) are essential. Neglected fluid leads to early belt failure.
