Luxury Performance β With a CVT That Can't Always Keep Up β Expert Infiniti transmission service since 1987. All models, all years. Free diagnostic.
Infiniti's rear-wheel-drive models (G35, G37, Q50, Q70) use the robust RE5R05A or JR710E five/seven-speed automatic β solid transmissions that rarely fail before 150k miles with proper maintenance. However, the front-wheel-drive and crossover models (QX60, QX50) use Jatco CVTs that share the same failure patterns as Nissan's troubled CVT lineup.
Infiniti's rear-drive automatic work is straightforward. The CVT work on QX60 and QX50 follows the same Jatco procedures as Nissan.
Years to watch: 2009β2015 QX60/JX35 and QX50 with Jatco CVT (same failure as Nissan); 2003β2008 G35 with RE5R05A (solenoid, usually after 100k); 2014+ QX60 second generation (CVT belt failure).
Our technicians know these failure modes by heart β we rebuild and repair them every week.
Transmission: RE5R05A
The RE5R05A five-speed in 2002β2010 G35, G37, FX35, and QX56 develops solenoid failures β particularly the shift solenoid A and B β causing harsh shifts and P0750/P0760 codes.
Symptoms: Delayed engagement from Park, harsh 2-3 upshift, slipping at highway speed, P0750 or P0760 code
Transmission: Jatco CVT
QX60, QX50, and JX35 use the Jatco JF011E CVT β the same unit in Nissan Murano and Pathfinder with the same belt failure issues. CVT failure is common after 80β120k miles without fluid service.
Symptoms: Shudder during acceleration, hesitation from stop, whining noise, sudden loss of acceleration, CVT warning light
Transmission: JR710E
The JR710E seven-speed in Q70 and newer RWD Infiniti models develops TCC wear causing shudder at highway cruise speeds.
Symptoms: Vibration at 40β60 mph during light throttle cruise, goes away under hard acceleration
Transmission: QX80
QX80 and older QX56 with RE7R01A develop solenoid wear causing delayed shifts and P07xx codes, especially on high-mileage units used for towing.
Symptoms: Delayed engagement, harsh upshifts under load, transmission temperature warning when towing, P07xx codes

"Family owned and it shows. They treated my car like it was their own. The lifetime warranty on my rebuild gives me total peace of mind. Highly recommend."
On the RE5R05A in G35/G37, harsh 2-3 is usually solenoid A or B. Get a diagnostic β solenoid replacement is $400β650 and often cures it without a rebuild.
Yes β QX60 CVT shudder is the Jatco belt showing wear. Check if you're within Infiniti's extended CVT coverage (call the dealer). If not, get a diagnostic to assess severity.
3β4 days. The RE5R05A is a robust unit β rebuilt correctly, it'll outlast 150k miles.
The CVT units are identical (JF011E in QX60 = JF011E in Nissan Murano). The RWD automatics are different from most Nissan products.
Yes. The JR710E is serviceable and we have rebuild capability for it.
Free computer diagnostic included with any Infiniti transmission inspection. Same-day appointments available at our Lincoln Park shop.
