Most rebuilds at our shop range from $1,800 to $4,500 depending on the vehicle and the type of transmission. A simple 4-speed automatic on an older domestic sedan sits at the lower end. A complex 8-speed automatic on a German luxury vehicle or a CVT on a recent import sits at the higher end. Diesel-duty transmissions on heavy-duty pickups can run higher still. We always provide a written estimate before any work begins — no surprises.

Plan on 3 to 7 business days for most full rebuilds. Simple jobs can be turned in 2 to 3 days; complex rebuilds with hard-to-source parts can take longer. We will give you an honest timeline at the time of estimate, and we keep you informed if anything changes.

Rebuilding is usually the better economic choice when the case and bell housing are not damaged. A quality rebuild restores the transmission to better-than-OEM condition for less than half the cost of a new dealer unit. We will inspect during diagnosis and make an honest recommendation either way.

A repair fixes a specific failed component while leaving the rest of the unit intact (e.g., replacing a single solenoid). A rebuild disassembles the entire transmission, replaces all wear parts, and restores the unit to spec. A replacement swaps the existing transmission for a different unit — either new from the dealer, remanufactured from a third party, or used from a salvage yard.

Yes. Our techs work on every domestic and import make sold in the U.S., from Acura through Volvo, including Chrysler, Mini, Ram, Lincoln, and others. Some models require manufacturer-specific scan tools or specialty fluid, and we maintain that equipment in-house.

It is exactly what it sounds like. We connect a professional-grade scan tool to your vehicle, read the trouble codes and live data, and perform a road test to verify the symptoms. We then give you a written estimate. There is no charge for this service and no obligation to have the work done at our shop.

Slipping usually means the transmission is engaging gears but not transferring full power — a sign of worn clutches, low or contaminated fluid, a failing torque converter, or a hydraulic pressure issue. Slipping that gets worse over time will eventually leave you stranded; address it early.

Hard shifting can come from low fluid, dirty fluid, a failed shift solenoid, a worn valve body, or programming faults in the transmission control module. Many of these are repairable for a fraction of the cost of a rebuild.

A check engine light combined with a transmission symptom often points to a stored P07XX-series code — the transmission control system has detected a fault. A trans temp warning means the unit is running hot, which can quickly cause damage. Stop and have it diagnosed before driving further.

Most automatics benefit from a fluid service every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. CVT units typically need fluid service more often, around every 30,000 miles. Manual transmissions are usually 50,000 to 80,000 miles. Severe service (towing, stop-and-go traffic) calls for shorter intervals.

Yes. We work with several third-party financing partners that can split a rebuild over 6, 12, or 24 months at competitive rates. See our financing page for details.
