Known BMW 7 Series Transmission Problems

• ZF 6HP26 E65 (2002–2008): Mechatronic failure — same pattern as all 6HP vehicles, but V8/V12 applications produce more torque stress
• ZF 8HP (F01/G11 2009+): Valve body solenoid wear — the V8 and V12 7 Series put enormous torque through these units. Extended fluid intervals are particularly damaging
• Park pawl: 7 Series has been subject to BMW's park pawl field action — vehicle may not hold in Park

Warning Signs — When to Bring It In

• Limp mode — 6HP mechatronic (E65)
• Harsh shifts when warm — 8HP solenoid (F01/G11)
• Vehicle rolls in Park — park pawl
• Clunk on full-throttle acceleration (V8/V12)
