SRX Gen 2 6T70/6T75 diagnosis must check for wave plate failure first β this is a known catastrophic failure mode that scatters metal throughout the transmission. If metal contamination is found, a full rebuild with wave plate upgrade is required. Solenoid and valve body testing covers erratic shift complaints without wave plate damage. Gen 1 5L40-E solenoid pack failure is diagnosed by code and solenoid resistance testing. AWD coupling is diagnosed separately. All 6T70/6T75 rebuilds use updated wave plate hardware to prevent recurrence.

The 6T70/6T75 has an internal aluminum wave plate that can fracture suddenly, scattering metal debris throughout the transmission. When it fails, the vehicle loses Drive completely. Rebuilds use an upgraded steel wave plate to prevent recurrence. This is the most critical failure mode to watch for.
Sudden loss of forward drive, metal particles visible in the transmission fluid, or complete inability to move despite engine running. If you have metal in the fluid pan, assume wave plate damage and plan for a full rebuild.
If the rest of the vehicle is in good condition, yes. A properly rebuilt 6T70 with wave plate upgrade is more reliable than the original unit. We include a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on all rebuilds.
Every 45,000 miles with Dexron VI. The 6T70 is sensitive to degraded fluid β extended intervals accelerate wave plate and clutch wear. If the fluid is dark or has a burnt smell, service it immediately.
