2009β2019: 6-speed automatic (62TE) front-wheel drive or AWD; 2.4L 4-cylinder or 3.6L V6 62TE is a Chrysler-designed front-wheel drive transmission β used across FCA minivans and crossovers AWD: open rear differential with active AWD coupling
Journey 62TE is a well-known service item β one of the highest-failure-rate FCA front-wheel drive transmissions. Diagnosis uses Chrysler wiTECH for manufacturer-specific codes. Solenoid pack resistance testing β full pack replacement is typically more cost-effective than individual solenoids given high failure rate. Torque converter shudder test with ATF+4 fluid check. AWD coupling is diagnosed separately. Full rebuild is recommended for units with solenoid failure that has been driven with slip, as clutch pack contamination often occurs. We recommend upgrading to an improved solenoid pack design during any 62TE rebuild.
Chrysler ATF+4 (required β not Dexron VI); approximately 9 quarts; ATF+4 must be used β Dexron causes solenoid damage
Fluid service: same day; solenoid pack: 1β2 days; torque converter: 2β3 days; full rebuild: 4β6 days

The 62TE has a higher-than-average failure rate compared to its segment peers β solenoid pack failure is very common. With regular ATF+4 changes and timely solenoid service, reliability improves significantly. Many high-mileage Journeys have had at least one solenoid pack replacement.
A Chrysler-designed 6-speed front-wheel drive automatic used in the Journey, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Grand Caravan. It replaced the older 41TE 4-speed and improved fuel economy but introduced solenoid reliability issues that weren't in the previous generation.
ATF+4 only β Chrysler's proprietary ATF. Do not use Dexron VI. Using Dexron in a 62TE damages solenoids and causes erratic shifting. Many solenoid failures we see were preceded by incorrect fluid being used.
Full rebuild: $2,600β3,600. Solenoid pack only: $700β1,200. Remanufactured unit: $3,200β4,600. We include an upgraded solenoid pack design in all 62TE rebuilds.
If the vehicle has under 100,000 miles and is otherwise in good condition, yes. We'll assess the full extent of damage during inspection. Sometimes solenoid pack replacement alone is sufficient; other times clutch contamination from driving with slip makes a full rebuild necessary.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
