Common Dodge Journey Transmission Questions

The 62TE has a higher-than-average failure rate compared to its segment peers β€” solenoid pack failure is very common. With regular ATF+4 changes and timely solenoid service, reliability improves significantly. Many high-mileage Journeys have had at least one solenoid pack replacement.

A Chrysler-designed 6-speed front-wheel drive automatic used in the Journey, Chrysler Town & Country, and Dodge Grand Caravan. It replaced the older 41TE 4-speed and improved fuel economy but introduced solenoid reliability issues that weren't in the previous generation.

ATF+4 only β€” Chrysler's proprietary ATF. Do not use Dexron VI. Using Dexron in a 62TE damages solenoids and causes erratic shifting. Many solenoid failures we see were preceded by incorrect fluid being used.

Full rebuild: $2,600–3,600. Solenoid pack only: $700–1,200. Remanufactured unit: $3,200–4,600. We include an upgraded solenoid pack design in all 62TE rebuilds.
