2022 - 2024: CVT (continuously variable transmission) - 2.5L Atkinson-cycle hybrid (FWD). 2022 - 2024: 8-speed automatic (8F35) - 2.0L EcoBoost (FWD and AWD). AWD models use Ford's on-demand AWD system with rear-wheel coupling.
The Maverick is a newer platform (2022+). CVT issues on the hybrid are typically addressed first with Ford's TSB updates and fluid exchange. For more advanced belt wear, CVT replacement or rebuild is required. The 8F35 EcoBoost automatic is a proven unit - most issues are solenoid-level repairs rather than full rebuilds at this mileage. AWD coupling issues are handled as drivetrain service separate from the main transmission.
Hybrid CVT uses Ford Hybrid CVT Fluid (specific part number - do not substitute). 8F35 EcoBoost uses Mercon LV. AWD rear coupling uses specific coupling fluid.
CVT fluid service: same day. CVT rebuild: 3 - 4 days. 8F35 solenoid: 1 - 2 days. Full 8F35 rebuild: 3 - 4 days.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
Yes - cold-start CVT shudder on the Maverick hybrid is a known issue with TSBs. Check with Ford for any applicable coverage before paying for service. If outside warranty, CVT fluid exchange and belt tension service is the first step.
Ford says 60,000 miles but we recommend 30,000 miles in Chicago conditions - cold winters and summer heat are hard on CVT fluid. The fluid is specific to Ford hybrid CVTs - don't use generic CVT fluid.
The 8F35 handles the Maverick's tow rating fine, but change the fluid every 30,000 miles instead of 60,000 when towing regularly. Heat is the enemy, and towing accelerates fluid degradation.
We don't do performance transmission builds for the Maverick - it's a compact truck designed for efficiency, not performance tuning. If you want higher tow capacity, consider the F-150.
Too early to say definitively - the Maverick was introduced in 2022. The hybrid CVT is Ford-developed and differs from Nissan/Jatco units. Fluid maintenance is critical. We'll give you an honest assessment at your diagnostic.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
