2003 - 2006 Gen 1 Sedan/Coupe: 5-speed automatic (RE5R05A) rear-wheel drive; optional 6-speed manual 2003 - 2007 Gen 1: Nissan ATTESA E-TS AWD on sedan models 2007 - 2008 Gen 2: 7-speed automatic (7AT / RE7R01A) rear-wheel drive and AWD; improved shift programming
G35 transmission diagnosis requires Nissan Consult III or equivalent for manufacturer-specific codes. RE5R05A solenoid valve body is the most common failure point - full replacement is recommended rather than individual solenoids due to cross-contamination. Fluid condition and metal particle content inspected. Torque converter shudder test at highway cruise. ATTESA AWD coupler is diagnosed separately - fluid replacement often resolves mild vibration; coupler replacement for confirmed mechanical failure. RE7R01A on Gen 2 models: solenoid E/F circuit is most common fault - valve body replacement addresses it.
RE5R05A and RE7R01A: Nissan Matic S ATF (or approved Matic K on 2007+); approximately 9 quarts; do not use Dexron as a substitute
Fluid service: same day; valve body/solenoid: 1 - 2 days; torque converter: 2 - 3 days; ATTESA service: same day; full rebuild: 4 - 6 days
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
On Gen 1 (5-speed): solenoid valve body wear causing erratic shifting and shudder. On Gen 2 (7-speed): solenoid E/F circuit fault causing limp mode. Both are well-documented and repair kits are widely available.
Yes - the ATTESA E-TS AWD transfer case has separate fluid that should be changed every 30,000 - 45,000 miles. Neglecting it leads to coupler wear and highway vibration. It's a separate service from the main transmission.
5-speed RE5R05A rebuild: $2,600 - 3,600. 7-speed RE7R01A: $2,800 - 3,900. Remanufactured units: $3,200 - 4,600 installed. Solenoid valve body replacement alone is $850 - 1,400 if the unit is otherwise healthy.
Nissan Matic S (2003 - 2006) or Matic K (2007+). Do not substitute Dexron - it is not compatible and will cause shudder and premature wear.
Not recommended for extended periods. Limp mode protects the transmission but limits function. Continued driving in limp mode may cause additional wear to clutch packs operating without normal pressure control.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
