RC transmission diagnosis uses Toyota Techstream. RC F AA80E/AB80E (also used in IS-F and LC500) has specific calibration requirements — harsh 1-2 is addressed by Lexus software update before mechanical work. WS ATF condition check is universal first step. RC350 shudder follows standard Lexus torque converter protocol. AWD center differential is serviced separately. RC300h requires hybrid-certified diagnosis for hybrid unit complaints. Rev-matching downshift hunting is a software issue addressed by the latest Lexus TCM calibration.

The RC F uses the AA80E or AB80E 8-speed automatic — a heavy-duty variant used in the IS-F, LC500, and some high-output Toyota/Lexus models. It is different from the AB60F in the RC350/RC300. The AA80E handles significantly more torque and has different service characteristics.
Harsh 1-2 on the RC F is a documented calibration issue addressed by Lexus software updates. The performance-tuned shift programming was revised for smoother street use while maintaining track response. Update is the first repair step.
Full AA80E/AB80E rebuild: $3,400–4,800. Remanufactured unit: $4,000–5,800 installed. For software-only issues, the cost is $95–150. We always start with diagnosis to determine the least invasive repair.
The same base 8-speed transmission, but the AWD model routes power through a center differential rather than directly to the rear axle. The center differential has its own fluid and service schedule.
