2019βpresent: 8-speed SelectShift automatic (8F57) on 2.0L EcoBoost; FWD and AWD 2019βpresent: 8-speed SelectShift automatic (8F57) on 2.7L EcoBoost; FWD and AWD Replaces MKX (2007β2018); based on Ford Edge platform All AWD: twin-clutch active AWD system
Nautilus 8F57 diagnosis: first confirm correct fluid β Nautilus 2019+ specifies Mercon ULV (Ultra Low Viscosity), not the older Mercon LV used in MKX and Continental. Using Mercon LV in a Nautilus causes shudder and potential clutch pack contamination. Ford IDS scan for manufacturer-specific codes. Torque converter test under highway load. PTU fluid inspection and seal check on AWD models. Shift hunting between 7th and 8th is usually a calibration issue β Ford has released TCM updates addressing this. Full rebuild is reserved for units with confirmed clutch pack or mechanical damage.
Ford Mercon ULV ATF (NOT Mercon LV β different spec), approximately 9β10 quarts; PTU: Ford XT-9-QMC gear oil
Fluid service: same day; PTU seal: 1 day; software update: same day; torque converter: 2β3 days; full rebuild: 5β7 days

Mercon ULV β Ultra Low Viscosity. This is different from the older Mercon LV used in MKX and Continental. Using the wrong fluid causes shudder and premature wear. We always verify the correct specification before service.
Generally yes β the 8F57 8-speed is more refined than the 6F50/6F55. The main maintenance change is the Mercon ULV fluid requirement, which some owners and shops miss. With the correct fluid and regular service, the Nautilus transmission is durable.
Shift hunting between 7th and 8th is a known calibration issue on early 2019β2020 models. Ford released TCM updates addressing this. A software update is the first repair to pursue.
Yes β same PTU setup as other Ford/Lincoln FWD-based AWD vehicles. The PTU fluid should be changed every 30,000β45,000 miles. Neglecting it leads to seal failure and potential PTU damage if it runs dry.
Full rebuild: $3,000β4,200. Remanufactured unit installed: $3,600β5,200. Fluid-service-only or software-update-only repairs are significantly less β we always start with the least invasive diagnosis.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
