Expert Subaru Subaru Ascent transmission service in Chicago. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds, all years.
2019βpresent: Lineartronic CVT (TR690) mated to 2.4L turbocharged FA24 engine.
The Ascent CVT carries more torque load than the 2.5i version β fluid maintenance is critical. We service with Subaru CVTF-II and check the transmission cooler every visit. For towing applications, we recommend an auxiliary cooler. Software updates from Subaru address shift hunting on 2019 models. Overheating-damaged CVTs require full rebuild or replacement.
Subaru CVTF-II. Critical β do not substitute.
Fluid service: same day. Cooler install: 1 day. CVT rebuild: 3β4 days.
"Honest diagnosis, fair price, and the repair was done right. Chicago Transmission has been my go-to for years. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my car."
"The free diagnostic alone was worth the trip. They found the problem fast, gave me a written estimate, and completed the work on time. Exceptional service."
"Family owned and it shows. They treated my car like it was their own. The lifetime warranty on my rebuild gives me total peace of mind. Highly recommend."
Yes β at the rated limit, in moderate conditions. But the CVT runs hot under sustained towing. Watch the temp gauge, add an auxiliary cooler, and service the fluid every 25,000 miles if towing regularly.
Likely a software issue β Subaru issued TSBs for shift hunting on early 2019 Ascents. The dealer can flash the update. If the surging continues after the update, the CVT needs inspection.
Same TR690 unit, but the Ascent's 2.4T puts significantly more torque through it. This makes thermal management more important β the Forester's naturally-aspirated engine is easier on the CVT.
Yes β 5 years/60,000 miles from Subaru. After warranty, we offer competitive rebuild pricing with our own 2-year/24k warranty.
Fluid exchange every 25,000β30,000 miles, auxiliary cooler if towing, avoid sustained grades at high load, and don't use aftermarket CVT fluids.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
