TCC shudder from degraded LT 71141 fluid is extremely common on VR6-powered Golf/Jetta. Higher VR6 torque aggravates TCC wear.
Symptoms: Vibration at 35β55 mph under light throttle, DTC P0740, shudder reduces with fresh fluid
Solenoid wear causes shift quality issues. VR6 heat loads accelerate solenoid degradation compared to 4-cylinder 01M units.
Symptoms: Harsh or absent upshifts, DTC P0752/P0753, engagement clunk
Band wear from VR6 torque causes 2nd gear slip. More common and earlier-occurring than on 4-cylinder 01M units.
Symptoms: Slip in 2nd gear under acceleration, RPM spike, DTC P0732
01N rebuild replaces solenoid set, brake band, TCC-upgraded torque converter, all clutch packs, and all seals. LT 71141 ATF used throughout.
LT 71141 ATF (G 052 025 A2) every 40,000 miles. VR6 applications should use 30,000-mile intervals given higher heat loads. TCC shudder in early stages often resolves with a fresh fluid flush.
The 01N is the higher-torque VR6 variant of the 01M, with upgraded clutch capacity. Both use the same external design and fluid specification.
VR6-powered Golf and Jetta, and 2.8-liter Audi A4/A6 FWD models from 1995β2001.
A full rebuild ranges $1,500β$2,000 at Chicago Transmission.
Esso LT 71141 / VW G 052 025 A2 ATF.
Often yes β if shudder is in early stages. Flush with LT 71141 and give it 500 miles. If shudder persists, torque converter service is needed.
