The 32RH's lockup torque converter solenoid fails at high mileage, causing TCC to stay engaged or disengage unexpectedly.
Symptoms: Engine stall at stops (TCC stuck engaged); shudder; TCC won't engage at highway speed
Same front band adjustment requirement as other TorqueFlite units.
Symptoms: 2nd-gear slip; band adjustment needed
Kickdown valve sticking prevents full-throttle downshifts.
Symptoms: No kickdown under hard acceleration
Full disassembly. TCC solenoid replaced. Front band replaced and adjusted. All clutch packs replaced. Valve body rebuilt. Full ATF+4 soft parts kit.
ATF+4 every 30,000 miles. Jeep Wrangler off-road use: service every 20,000 miles. Check TCC operation β engine should not stall at a stop when transmission is in Drive.
1988β2002 Jeep Wrangler YJ and TJ with the 2.5L 4-cyl and some 4.0L 6-cyl applications. Some early Cherokee versions also used it.
Classic stuck TCC solenoid symptom. If the TCC stays engaged when you stop, the engine stalls. TCC solenoid replacement ($150β250) resolves it immediately.
Adequate for light off-road. Serious rock crawling is hard on any automatic, but the 32RH is a robust simple design that handles mild off-road well with regular ATF+4 service.
Mopar ATF+4. Do not use Dexron.
