VW/Audi-calibrated 5HP19 units have solenoid body wear that causes shift quality issues. The failure mode is similar to BMW applications but with different DTC codes due to VAG diagnostic systems.
Symptoms: DTC P0750βP0758 (VAG format), erratic shift quality, limp mode
TCC shudder from neglected ZF fluid is the same as in BMW 5HP19 applications β the ZF design is identical.
Symptoms: Vibration at 45β65 mph, DTC P0740, better with fresh ZF LGF5 fluid
Longitudinal quattro applications suffer from output shaft seal failure between transmission and rear diff.
Symptoms: ATF leak from output flange area, low ATF level, ATF contamination in driveshaft tunnel
5HP19 rebuild (VW/Audi) replaces solenoid body, all clutch packs, torque converter, output shaft seals, and all seals. ZF LifeGuardFluid 5 used. quattro transfer flange seal replaced.
ZF LifeGuardFluid 5 (or VW G 055 025 A2 equivalent) every 40,000 miles. quattro transfer case requires separate fluid service. Always use VW/Audi diagnostic equipment for VAG-calibrated 5HP19 units.
The hardware is identical β the ZF platform is shared. The calibration (shift points, pressure curves) differs per manufacturer, and diagnostic procedures use BMW ISTA vs. VAG-COM respectively.
