The V10 S85 generates extreme heat that deteriorates the mechatronic harness faster than any other 6HP application. BMW M5/M6 mechatronic failure is a well-documented issue.
Symptoms: Limp mode, DTC 4D0C, harsh gear engagement, MIL on β very common on M5/M6 above 80,000 miles

The V10 S85 torque output exceeds the 6HP28's original design spec under repeated WOT applications. Pump wear causes pressure loss.

6HP28 rebuild replaces mechatronic unit (upgraded harness), upgraded clutch packs for M-rated torque, hydraulic pump, and all seals. Torque converter is rebuilt with upgraded friction disc. ZF LifeGuardFluid 6 used.
ZF LifeGuardFluid 6 every 30,000 miles for M-powered applications β shorter interval than standard due to V10 heat loads. If tracking your M5, change fluid after every track event.
E60 M5, E63/E64 M6 with V10 S85 engine, and some E9x M3 automatic-equipped versions.
It's a weak link in the E60 M5 drivetrain. Mechatronic failure is extremely common above 80,000 miles in V10 applications.
