The 6T70 SRV bore wear is extremely common in Traverse/Acadia applications — one of the most frequently repaired 6T-family issues we see.
Symptoms: 2nd-gear slip in heavy crossover; harsh 1-2 shift; worsens with load
The 6T70 AWD variants include an integral PTU. PTU seal and bearing failures cause ATF leaks and AWD engagement noise. Often confused with transmission failure.
Symptoms: Fluid leak at PTU area; AWD engagement shudder; grinding noise from PTU
Solenoid body wear on these high-mileage crossovers.
Symptoms: Limp mode; P-codes; erratic shifts
Full disassembly. SRV bore kit installed. PTU seals inspected and replaced if needed. Solenoid body replaced. All clutch packs replaced. Full soft parts. Valve body rebuilt.
Dexron VI every 40,000 miles. PTU fluid (separate from transaxle) should be changed every 45,000 miles. Many owners neglect this and cause PTU failures.
No — the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) is a separate gearbox attached to the 6T70 transaxle that routes power to the rear wheels. It has its own fluid and its own failure modes. We service both.
Turn shudder in AWD applications is often the rear coupling or the PTU — not the main 6T70 transaxle. We diagnose both systems before recommending a repair.
