The 722.8 uses wet multi-plate clutches (not a traditional torque converter). Fluid contamination or degradation causes clutch shudder and engagement problems.
Symptoms: Shudder on launch, harsh engagement from stop, DTC P0810 or P0840
The mechatronic unit fails as on RWD 7G-Tronic units, causing limp mode and erratic shifting.

Mercedes-Benz MB 236.15 ATF every 40,000 miles. The wet-clutch architecture requires correct fluid — MB 236.15 is not interchangeable with MB 236.14 used in RWD 7G-Tronic units.
