Top 3 Failure Points

1

Solenoid Body Failure (AWD Thermal Load)

AWD torque transfer combined with V6 heat loads accelerates solenoid body wear. Santa Fe V6 and Sorento V6 AWD solenoid failures are frequent.

Symptoms: DTC P0750–P0758, limp mode, harsh shifts, MIL on

2

Transfer Case Output Seal

The output shaft seal between the A6LF and AWD transfer case leaks ATF into the transfer case.

Symptoms: ATF leak from transfer case area, mixed ATF in transfer fluid, AWD warning light

3

TCC Shudder

TCC shudder is prevalent across all A6LF applications, particularly in V6 AWD Santa Fe and Sorento.

Symptoms: Vibration at 40–60 mph, DTC P0740, worse under AWD engagement conditions

Rebuild Process

A6LF rebuild replaces solenoid body, all clutch packs (upgraded V6 spec), torque converter, transfer case output seal, and all seals. SP-IV-M ATF used.

What's Replaced in Every Rebuild

  • Solenoid body assembly
  • All clutch packs (V6 upgraded)
  • Torque converter with upgraded TCC
  • Transfer case output seal
  • All seals and O-rings

Maintenance Tips

SP-IV-M ATF every 30,000 miles. AWD transfer case requires separate fluid service (Hyundai transfer case fluid). Sorento and Santa Fe towing owners should add an auxiliary cooler.

FAQ

Common Questions About the A6LF1/2/3

Hyundai Santa Fe AWD, Kia Sorento AWD, Tucson AWD, and Sportage AWD with V6 or 2.4L 4-cylinder from 2007–2021.

Yes β€” the transfer case uses a different fluid from the transmission. Both need separate service every 30,000 miles.

A full rebuild ranges $1,700–$2,300 at Chicago Transmission.

Hyundai/Kia SP-IV-M ATF for the transmission; separate fluid for the transfer case.

Yes β€” for towing and sustained highway use, an auxiliary cooler reduces solenoid body wear and extends transmission life significantly.
