TCC shudder at highway speed is the primary FS5A-EL complaint across all applications. Mazda 6 owners report this as the most frequent automatic transmission issue.
Symptoms: Vibration at 45–65 mph, DTC P0740, shudder reduces at WOT or with fresh ATF-M5
Shift solenoids fail from varnish deposits in degraded ATF-M5. CX-7 turbo applications generate more heat, accelerating solenoid wear.
Symptoms: DTC P0750–P0760, harsh or delayed shifts, limp mode
CX-7 2.3T turbo generates extreme heat in the confined engine bay. ATF degrades rapidly and causes accelerated internal wear across all components.

FS5A-EL rebuild replaces solenoid body, all clutch packs, torque converter, and all seals. CX-7 units receive an auxiliary cooler recommendation. ATF-M5 or Mercon V used.
