GM 6L50 variable force solenoids (same as 6L45/6L80/6L90) fail in Land Rover off-road and heavy-duty applications, causing harsh shifts and TCC shudder. This is the primary 6L50 failure mode regardless of application.
Symptoms: TCC shudder at cruise, harsh or soft shifts, DTC P0740 or VFS-specific codes
Land Rover's permanent 4WD system places constant load on the 6L50 output shaft. Output seal failure causes ATF contamination of the transfer case.
Symptoms: ATF leak from transfer case area, mixed fluids, 4WD warning light
