The NAG1 conductor plate fails identically to the Mercedes 722.6. It is the #1 repair on all Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep NAG1 applications. Hemi torque accelerates heat exposure.
Symptoms: Limp mode, DTC P0715/P0720/P0885, erratic shift quality, MIL on
Individual shift solenoids (S1βS4) fail on high-mileage units. Dodge Charger SRT8 and Challenger SRT applications see higher failure rates from performance use.
Symptoms: DTC P0750βP0760 range, specific gear loss, harsh shifts
The output shaft seal leaks ATF, especially on high-mileage Jeep Grand Cherokee units with transfer case load.
Symptoms: ATF drip from rear of transmission, low fluid level, ATF in transfer case (if progressive)
NAG1 rebuild replaces conductor plate, solenoid pack, all clutch packs, torque converter, output shaft seal, and all seals. Mopar NAG1 ATF (specific part number) is used β NOT standard ATF+4.
Mopar NAG1 ATF (specific Mopar part β check dealer part number) every 40,000 miles. Do not use standard ATF+4 or generic fluid β NAG1 has its own fluid chemistry requirement. Output shaft seal should be inspected on any Jeep Grand Cherokee NAG1 service.
NAG1 is Chrysler's name for the Mercedes-Benz 722.6 transmission purchased from Mercedes for use in the 300C, Charger, Challenger, Magnum, and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Mopar NAG1 ATF β this is a specific part number from Mopar and is NOT the same as regular ATF+4. Using the wrong fluid causes solenoid damage.
A full rebuild ranges $1,900β$2,500 at Chicago Transmission.
Yes when maintained β but conductor plate failure is common. With proper Mopar NAG1 fluid service every 40,000 miles, these transmissions are quite durable.
Often yes β conductor plate replacement alone resolves limp mode in many cases.
