The Nissan Maxima 3.5L V6 pushes the limits of the RE0F11A's torque capacity. Belt wear is faster than in 4-cylinder applications.
Symptoms: Belt noise, hesitation under WOT, DTC P0868, vehicle acceleration falls off
Neglected NS-3 fluid allows metallic particles to score pulley surfaces. Once scored, pulley replacement is mandatory.
Symptoms: Noise, vibration, ratio hunting, failure to reach full overdrive ratio
Varnish deposits stick ratio control solenoids, causing the CVT to hold one ratio instead of continuously varying.
Symptoms: Sudden ratio jump instead of smooth variation, DTC P0776, fuel economy drop
RE0F11A rebuild replaces belt, both pulleys, and valve body solenoids. Pulley surfaces are inspected for scoring; replacement if damaged. NS-3 fluid used. All seals, bearings, and O-rings renewed.
Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid every 25,000 miles for Maxima V6 applications β shorter interval than standard due to V6 torque loads. Murano and Altima can use 30,000-mile intervals with regular NS-3.
2016β2022 Nissan Maxima (CVT), Murano, 2019+ Infiniti QX50 2.0T, and 2019+ Nissan Altima 2.5.
It is controversial β the Maxima V6 pushes the RE0F11A near its torque limits. Regular NS-3 service every 25,000 miles is critical.
