Multiple pressure control and shift solenoids fail on RE5R05A units, causing erratic shift quality, DTCs, and limp mode. Solenoid body replacement is the #1 repair on this platform.
Symptoms: DTC P0750βP0795 range, erratic shifts, limp mode, shift flares under WOT
The TCC friction disc wears prematurely under V8 QX56 and V6 G35/FX35 torque loads, causing highway shudder.
Symptoms: Shudder at 45β65 mph, DTC P0740, fuel economy drop at highway speed
The input and output shaft speed sensors fail electrically, causing shift timing errors and ABS/AWD interference.
Symptoms: DTC P0717 or P0722, erratic speedometer, AWD warning light on AWD models
RE5R05A rebuild replaces complete solenoid body, all clutch packs, torque converter, and all seals. Speed sensors are replaced. Valve body is cleaned and inspected for bore wear. Matic-S fluid is used throughout.
Nissan Matic-S ATF every 30,000 miles. The RE5R05A runs hot in G35 and 350Z performance applications β an auxiliary cooler is recommended. Never substitute Dexron; Matic-S chemistry is friction-material specific.

Valve body solenoid failure β one or more solenoids fail, causing DTCs and shift quality issues. Solenoid body replacement resolves most cases without a full rebuild.
A full rebuild ranges $1,900β$2,500 at Chicago Transmission. Solenoid body replacement alone is less expensive.
Nissan Matic-S ATF. Do not use Dexron or generic ATF.
It is acceptable when fluid is maintained, but the solenoid body is a known weak point, particularly after 100,000 miles.
