XC90 T6 turbocharged applications generate the highest heat loads of any TF-81SC application. EPC solenoid failure is frequent above 80,000 miles.
Symptoms: Variable shift quality, DTC P0777/P0778, hunting under acceleration
The TF-81SC mechatronic unit fails from heat cycling in AWD T6 applications. Multiple solenoid codes appear simultaneously.
Symptoms: Multiple DTC codes, limp mode, MIL on, transmission in emergency mode
The TF-81SC interfaces with the Haldex AWD system. Transmission fault codes can trigger AWD disable, and Haldex failures are often misdiagnosed as transmission problems.

TF-81SC rebuild replaces mechatronic unit, EPC solenoid, all clutch packs, torque converter, and all seals. JWS 3309/Shell 3403 fluid used. Haldex interface is inspected.
JWS 3309 / Shell 3403 ATF every 40,000 miles (30,000 for T6 AWD XC90). Haldex AWD requires separate service every 30,000 miles — diagnose Haldex and transmission independently before authorizing any repair.
The TF-81SC handles higher torque input, designed for T6 twin-turbocharged and T5 applications with AWD. The TF-80SC is for lighter V6 non-turbo duty.
