C40 drivetrain service requires high-voltage EV certification and Volvo VIDA software. Reduction gear fluid inspection is the primary scheduled service. AWD units require separate front and rear reduction gear inspection. Regen braking inconsistency is addressed with OTA or in-shop software update. Output shaft seal replacement is done without full motor removal on most early units. AWD torque vectoring calibration is a software-only fix. Battery thermal management behavior in cold is normal and addressed by educating the owner on preconditioning practices.

No traditional transmission. The C40 Recharge is fully electric and uses fixed-ratio reduction gears connected to one or two electric motors. There are no gear shifts, clutches, or multi-speed gearing.
Electric motors and batteries are affected by cold β the battery management system limits power and regeneration below certain temperatures to protect the pack. Preconditioning the battery while plugged in before driving in freezing weather restores normal range and performance.
Yes β electric reduction gear drivetrains have far fewer wear items than traditional automatics. With proper fluid maintenance and seal inspections, C40 reduction gears are expected to last 200,000+ miles.
Yes β we are high-voltage EV certified. We handle reduction gear service, seal and bearing replacement, and software reprogramming. For battery pack or motor winding failures, we coordinate with Volvo dealers for those specific components.
