2010–2017: Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic. 2018–present: Aisin AW TG-81SC 8-speed automatic.
XC60 uses the same TF-80SC as XC90 — our rebuild procedure is identical. TG-81SC on 2018+ models is more durable but needs Aisin-specification fluid. Range sensor replacement resolves PRNDL errors without transmission removal. We carry all solenoid sets and rebuild kits in stock.

Most likely solenoid body — the TF-80SC solenoid pack wears predictably and causes exactly that symptom. We confirm with pressure testing before replacing parts.
The TG-81SC is significantly better — smoother, more efficient, and more durable. But it still needs proper fluid maintenance to last.

Yes — if the TCM reads the lever as Not in Park, the starter is inhibited. This is a common misdiagnosis as an ignition issue on Volvos.
