2010 - 2017: Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic. 2018 - present: Aisin AW TG-81SC 8-speed automatic.
XC60 uses the same TF-80SC as XC90 - our rebuild procedure is identical. TG-81SC on 2018+ models is more durable but needs Aisin-specification fluid. Range sensor replacement resolves PRNDL errors without transmission removal. We carry all solenoid sets and rebuild kits in stock.
Aisin ATF (Volvo-spec TF-0870). TG-81SC: Aisin ATF.
Verify exact spec on the dipstick label or owner's manual before fill. Recommended change interval: every 60,000 miles for normal driving, 30,000 miles under severe service (towing, stop-and-go, hot climates). Pan service typically takes 6 - 8 quarts; a full fluid exchange takes 10 - 14 quarts depending on cooler-line capacity.
Solenoid: 1 day. Rebuild: 3 - 4 days. Range sensor: same day.
Fluid service and inspection complete the same day. Solenoid or sensor replacement: 1 day. Torque converter or seal repair: 2 - 3 days. Full rebuild with road test: 4 - 6 days. Time estimates assume parts in stock - call (312) 626-8759 to verify availability for your specific vehicle.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
Most likely solenoid body - the TF-80SC solenoid pack wears predictably and causes exactly that symptom. We confirm with pressure testing before replacing parts.
The TG-81SC is significantly better - smoother, more efficient, and more durable. But it still needs proper fluid maintenance to last.
Yes - 2 years/24,000 miles on all rebuilds, 1 year on component repairs.
Yes - if the TCM reads the lever as Not in Park, the starter is inhibited. This is a common misdiagnosis as an ignition issue on Volvos.
$2,000 - 2,800 for the TF-80SC 6-speed, $2,400 - 3,400 for the TG-81SC 8-speed. Get suspicious of quotes well below that range - rebuild quality varies enormously.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
