The Ford DPS6 PowerShift is a dry dual-clutch 6-speed used in the Focus and Fiesta. It's one of the most problematic transmissions Ford ever produced β subject to a $1.7 billion class action settlement. Shudder, hesitation, slipping, and check engine lights are endemic. Dry dual-clutch engagement at low speed causes shudder and jerk. The dry design is more sensitive to friction material wear than wet DCTs.

A full rebuild with new clutch packs and flywheel resurfacing significantly improves reliability. It won't be a perfect transmission, but it can work well.
We'd recommend avoiding it if you have options. The Fiesta and Focus are excellent cars otherwise.
