The Tremec T56 is the predecessor to the TR6060 and one of the most popular 6-speed manuals for classic muscle car builds and swaps. Widely used in 4th-gen Camaros and Fox/SN95 Mustangs. Synchro wear and input shaft bearing noise are the same failure patterns as the TR6060.

Grind into 2nd is the classic T56 complaint β same issue as the TR6060.
Symptoms: Grind shifting to 2nd, especially when cold
The 3-4 shift fork wears causing a vague or missed 3rd gear.
Symptoms: Miss 3rd gear under hard shifting
Input shaft bearing wear from age and mileage.

Yes β T56 swaps are common in muscle car builds. We rebuild the transmission and can advise on crossmember and driveshaft changes.
The TR6060 has a higher torque rating. For stock or mildly modified cars, the T56 is plenty strong.
