Encore GX diagnosis depends on which powertrain is installed. CVT models: belt and pulley inspection at 80,000+ miles or when slip or surge is present; CVT fluid replacement is the first service step. 6T45 models follow the standard solenoid and wave plate protocol. 9T50 AWD models: software update first for shift complaints, then fluid inspection, then mechanical diagnosis. AWD coupling click on cold starts is often normal engagement behavior — persistent click in warm conditions warrants coupling inspection.

Yes — GM-specified CVT fluid is required. Standard ATF or generic CVT fluid causes belt slip and premature wear. We always use GM-specified fluid for CVT service.
After software updates, the 9T50 in the Encore GX AWD has been solid. The main maintenance item is Dexron HP fluid changes every 40,000–45,000 miles. Early 2020 production benefited most from the TCM calibration update.
With proper fluid maintenance, most CVT belts last 100,000–130,000 miles. Neglecting fluid changes or driving with persistent slip accelerates belt wear significantly. We inspect CVT fluid at every oil change interval.
The Encore GX is a larger vehicle and uses a different powertrain lineup — including the 9T50 9-speed automatic on AWD models, which the smaller Encore does not offer. The 1.3T GX also produces more torque than the Encore's 1.4T, requiring the higher-capacity transmission.
Yes — the 1.3T AWD is rated for 1,000 lbs tow capacity. Light trailer use is fine, but we recommend annual transmission fluid inspection if you tow regularly, even with light loads.
