F-Pace ZF 8HP service requires Jaguar SDD diagnostic software for complete manufacturer and ZF-specific fault codes. ZF Lifeguard 8 ATF verification — many F-Paces have received incorrect fluid during routine service. Shudder test under highway cruise load. Torque converter replacement for persistent shudder after fluid service. PTU seal inspection is critical — fluid starvation from PTU seal failure damages the PTU internally. Transfer case actuator test for AWD faults. Software update from Jaguar before any hardware work on shift quality complaints.

The ZF 8HP is a proven transmission used across many luxury brands. The F-Pace's main transmission issues are fluid-related (wrong ATF or degraded Lifeguard 8) and PTU seal leaks. With correct ZF Lifeguard 8 fluid and PTU maintenance, the drivetrain is durable.
Power Transfer Unit — the gear assembly that distributes power from the front-mounted engine to all four wheels. The PTU has its own fluid and seal. A common F-Pace failure is PTU output seal leak, which can starve the PTU of fluid and cause internal damage if not caught.
The SVR's ZF 8HP76 is a higher-torque-capacity version of the standard 8HP. Service procedures and fluid spec are the same. More frequent fluid changes (every 35,000 miles) are recommended given the 550 hp supercharged output.
Full rebuild: $4,200–6,000. Remanufactured unit installed: $5,500–8,000. Major component repairs like PTU seal ($380–680) or torque converter ($1,100–1,900) are more cost-effective if the unit is otherwise healthy.
