W163 ML with the older 722.6 NAG1 needs solenoid pack service. 4MATIC transfer case chain wear should be checked during any transmission service.
722.9 (W164/W166): MB 236.14 or 236.15. 722.6 NAG1 (W163): MB 236.14. Transfer case: MB 235.0. Change every 40,000 miles.
Conductor plate: 1β2 days. NAG1 solenoid: 1β2 days. Full rebuild: 4 days.

On a W164 or W166 ML with 722.9, limp mode = conductor plate failure. Very common repair. $900β1,500 at our shop vs. $2,000β3,500 at a dealer.
W163 ML with NAG1 722.6 β solenoid pack failure. Often repairable for $700β1,100 without a full rebuild.
Could be 4MATIC transfer case chain wear β very common on high-mileage ML. We'll diagnose at the free diagnostic.
If the body and engine are in good shape, yes. W163 ML frames are solid and the M112 V6 and M113 V8 are durable engines.
