Outlander Sport CVT diagnosis: CVTF-J4 fluid condition check first. Belt and pulley inspection under load. Overheating diagnosis includes cooler flow evaluation — adding an auxiliary cooler is recommended for units that repeatedly overheat. AWC coupling fluid is a separate service from the main CVT. Input shaft seal repair requires front transmission disassembly. CVT rebuild includes new belt, pulleys, and bearings with fresh CVTF-J4.

Adequate for its class — the 2.0L CVT in the Outlander Sport is sized appropriately but struggles more than larger CVTs when pushed hard. Regular CVTF-J4 changes every 30,000 miles significantly extend belt life.
The Outlander Sport's CVT cooler is marginal for heavy Chicago stop-and-go. Frequent low-speed engagement cycles generate more heat than highway driving. We can install an auxiliary cooler to reduce overheating risk.
With CVTF-J4 changes every 30,000 miles, most CVT belts last 100,000–130,000 miles. Without fluid changes, failure can occur by 60,000–80,000 miles.
Active All-Wheel Control — Mitsubishi's electronically-controlled AWD coupling that varies torque split front to rear based on conditions. Coupling fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles — neglecting it causes vibration and coupling wear.
