2011 - 2018: Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic. 2019 - present: Aisin AW TG-81SC 8-speed automatic. Some T8 models: rear e-axle drive unit.
TF-80SC solenoid replacement is the most common S60 repair we perform. We always pressure-test before condemning the valve body. TCM software faults require Volvo VIDA interface to clear and recalibrate - we have this equipment in-house. TG-81SC needs Aisin-spec fluid only.
Volvo-spec Aisin ATF.
Verify exact spec on the dipstick label or owner's manual before fill. Recommended change interval: every 60,000 miles for normal driving, 30,000 miles under severe service (towing, stop-and-go, hot climates). Pan service typically takes 6 - 8 quarts; a full fluid exchange takes 10 - 14 quarts depending on cooler-line capacity.
Solenoid: 1 day. Rebuild: 3 - 4 days.
Fluid service and inspection complete the same day. Solenoid or sensor replacement: 1 day. Torque converter or seal repair: 2 - 3 days. Full rebuild with road test: 4 - 6 days. Time estimates assume parts in stock - call (312) 626-8759 to verify availability for your specific vehicle.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
The TF-80SC 6-speed is reliable with maintenance - solenoid wear is the main issue, and it's repairable. The TG-81SC in 2019+ S60s is more durable.
TCM software faults can trigger limp mode without logging hard codes. We re-flash the TCM with Volvo VIDA and recalibrate adaptive shift tables - often resolves without any parts.
Yes - shudder at low speed is usually TF-80SC torque converter or solenoid wear. Fluid flush cures converter shudder in many cases; persistent shudder points to solenoid body replacement.
3 - 4 business days for a full TF-80SC rebuild. We keep solenoid kits and rebuild parts in stock.
Volvo-spec Aisin ATF. Don't use Dexron VI or multi-vehicle CVT fluid - it will cause solenoid wear and shudder within 10,000 miles.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
