Experienced Chrysler 68RFE specialists since 1987. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds.
The 68RFE is Chrysler's 6-speed automatic for the Ram heavy-duty diesel trucks. Paired with the Cummins 6.7L turbodiesel, it's under tremendous torque load. Stock 68RFEs are widely considered the weak link in the Ram HD package. Solenoid pack failures and governor pressure solenoid issues are endemic. High-performance builds with upgraded billet components are popular among Ram owners who tow heavy loads.

The solenoid pack is the most common 68RFE failure. All 6 solenoids are in a single assembly. Failure causes codes, limp mode, or complete loss of shifts.
Symptoms: Limp mode, P0750βP0765, stuck in one gear
The governor pressure solenoid controls line pressure and is the #1 individual solenoid failure on the 68RFE.
Symptoms: P0745, harsh shifts, flare on upshifts
Stock O/D clutch pack is undersized for tuned Cummins torque. First to fail when trucks are modified for more power.
Symptoms: Slip in 5th and 6th gear, shudder at highway cruise
Accumulator housing cracks under high-pressure diesel applications, causing pressure loss and erratic shifts.
Symptoms: ATF leak from case, pressure codes, erratic shifts

Stock, it's adequate for light-duty diesel use. For heavy towing or tuned trucks, the stock 68RFE is under-built. We offer upgrades that significantly increase reliability.
If you tow regularly or have a tuned Cummins, absolutely. Billet components in the clutch packs and accumulator housing are worth the investment.
Heat and fluid degradation. Long ATF+4 intervals are the #1 killer. Change it every 20k miles if you tow.
3β5 days for a standard rebuild, 5β7 for a performance build.
