Experienced GM 6T40 / 6T45 / 6T50 specialists since 1987. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds.
The 6T40/45/50 family is GM's compact 6-speed automatic for front-wheel-drive applications. Common in Equinox, Terrain, and Malibu. These are generally reliable but fail predictably with the solenoid regulator valve β the same bore-wear issue as the 6L80. Caught early, it's a cheap fix. Ignored, it destroys the valve body and clutch packs.

Bore wear in the SRV causes pressure drop and erratic shifts β identical failure mechanism to the larger 6L80.
Symptoms: Harsh shifts, delayed 1-2, P0751/P0752
Clutch packs degrade from long fluid intervals or SRV-related pressure issues.
Symptoms: Slip, flare on upshifts, burning smell

Average for its class. The SRV bore wear is its main weakness but it's easy and cheap to fix if caught early.
The 6T40/6T45 SRV bore wear is common on Equinox. If you're getting harsh 1-2 shifts or P0751/P0752 codes, that's usually the culprit.
Yes β the unit itself is solid. Fixing the SRV and refreshing the clutch packs gives you a reliable transmission.
