Experienced Jatco JF016E (RE0F10A) CVT specialists since 1987. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds.
The JF016E β also called the RE0F10A β is Nissan/Jatco's most common CVT in the Chicago area. It's in the Rogue, Altima, Pathfinder, and QX60. Failure rates are high: we rebuild more of these than any other CVT. The steel push belt and primary pulley bearing are the primary failure points. Nissan extended the CVT warranty to 84 months/84,000 miles on many models β if you're within that window, check before paying out of pocket.
| Type | CVT (Steel Push Belt) |
| Fluid | Nissan NS-3 CVT Fluid |
| Fluid Capacity | 7.9 qts |
| Ratio Range | 2.349:1 β 0.393:1 |
| Weight | ~185 lbs |
The CVT belt transfers power between the two variable pulleys. Belt wear causes ratio control loss and eventually complete drive failure. Belt replacement requires full disassembly.
Symptoms: Shudder under acceleration, RPM flare, jerky low-speed movement, P0776
The primary (input) pulley bearing fails under normal use β particularly on Rogues and Altimas in city driving. Metal particles contaminate the fluid and accelerate damage.
Symptoms: Whining or grinding noise, vibration increasing with speed, sudden loss of drive
The step motor controls pulley ratio. Failures cause ratio stuck in high or low, killing fuel economy and driveability.
Symptoms: Engine revs high but car moves slowly, stuck in one ratio, P0746
The CVT valve body is complex and sensitive to fluid degradation. Using the wrong fluid or extended intervals destroys the valve body solenoids.
Symptoms: Erratic ratio changes, P0840, P0868, limp mode

Most can be rebuilt. If the belt is intact and the pulleys aren't scored, a rebuild is cost-effective. We'll inspect and tell you honestly.
Nissan extended CVT coverage to 84 months/84,000 miles on many 2012β2018 models. Check your VIN at a Nissan dealer before paying β we'll tell you if you should make that call first.
4β6 days. CVT rebuilds are more time-intensive than standard automatics.
Nissan NS-3 or a certified equivalent (Idemitsu NS-3 is a good OEM alternative). Never use generic CVT fluid β it destroys the belt and valve body.
Depends on the vehicle's overall condition. We'll give you an honest assessment β sometimes the right answer is a used/remanufactured unit instead.
