A remanufactured transmission is professionally rebuilt to OEM spec at a factory — then installed by our team with a fresh filter, seals, and fluid. Better than used. In many cases competitive with a local rebuild.
"Honest diagnosis, fair price, and the repair was done right. Chicago Transmission has been my go-to for years. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my car."
"The free diagnostic alone was worth the trip. They found the problem fast, gave me a written estimate, and completed the work on time. Exceptional service."
"Family owned and it shows. They treated my car like it was their own. The lifetime warranty on my rebuild gives me total peace of mind. Highly recommend."
In almost every case, yes. A remanufactured unit has known internal condition — wear items have been replaced, it's been tested before shipping, and it carries a meaningful warranty. A used unit's internal condition is unknown. The price difference is usually $300–$600 — worth it for the reliability improvement.
A local rebuild is often preferable for long-term keeps because we know exactly what's inside, we control the quality of every part, and we back it with a lifetime warranty. A reman unit has a shorter warranty (typically 1–3 years) and we can't guarantee what's inside it. For vehicles where the core is too damaged or availability is limited, reman is a good alternative.
Sourcing the unit takes 1–3 days depending on availability. Installation is typically 1–2 days after the unit arrives. We'll give you an accurate timeline when we confirm the specific unit.
