TCC shudder, slip, P0740/P0741 codes — we diagnose the cause first, then quote a fixed price. Free diagnostic included. Written estimate before any work.
"Honest diagnosis, fair price, and the repair was done right. Chicago Transmission has been my go-to for years. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my car."
"The free diagnostic alone was worth the trip. They found the problem fast, gave me a written estimate, and completed the work on time. Exceptional service."
"Family owned and it shows. They treated my car like it was their own. The lifetime warranty on my rebuild gives me total peace of mind. Highly recommend."
Often yes — especially on Toyota, Honda, and GM vehicles. A fluid exchange with OEM-spec fluid and a friction modifier additive resolves TCC shudder in many cases where the converter friction material is still serviceable. We always try this first. If the shudder continues after a fluid service, converter replacement is the next step.
The most common cause is wear of the torque converter clutch (TCC) friction material — the disc that locks the converter at highway speed. Towing, high-mileage use, and neglected fluid changes accelerate this wear. Less commonly, the converter's internal damper springs break, or the stator fails.
Most converter replacements are completed in 1–2 business days. We stock converters for common GM, Ford, Toyota, and Honda applications to avoid parts delays.
For short distances, yes — but a slipping TCC generates heat that accelerates fluid degradation and clutch wear. Don't defer it more than a week or two once you notice it.

We'll test TCC operation, check fluid, and tell you exactly what's needed before any cost. 2450 N Lincoln Ave — Mon–Fri 7:30am–6pm, Sat 8am–2pm.
