Expert Cadillac XT4 transmission service in Chicago. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds, all years.
2019βpresent: 9-speed automatic (9T50) front-wheel drive or AWD; 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder AWD models: Active twin-clutch AWD system with disconnect capability for fuel efficiency 2021+ updates: Revised 9T50 software calibration addressing early shift complaints
XT4 9T50 diagnosis begins with GDS2 scan and software version check β GM released calibration updates addressing shift harshness and engagement delay on 2019β2020 models. Shudder testing under highway cruise load determines torque converter health. Dexron HP fluid condition inspection follows. Software update resolves most 1-2 harshness complaints. Persistent shudder after software update requires torque converter inspection. AWD actuator noise is diagnosed by component isolation β actuator motor replacement covers most cases.
GM Dexron HP ATF (required), approximately 9 quarts; do not substitute Dexron VI
Software update: same day; fluid service: same day; torque converter: 2β3 days; AWD actuator: 1 day; full rebuild: 5β7 days

After software updates addressing early production issues, the 9T50 has performed well. The main ongoing vulnerability is shudder from torque converter wear, which is manageable with regular Dexron HP fluid changes every 40,000β45,000 miles.
1-2 harshness is the most common complaint on 2019β2020 XT4 models. GM released calibration updates that significantly smoothed the 1-2 shift. If your vehicle hasn't had the update, that's the first repair to pursue.
Yes β the XT4 AWD system disconnects the rear axle during highway cruising to improve fuel economy, reconnecting when traction is needed. The actuator that handles this disconnect is occasionally noisy on early units. Replacement is straightforward.
GM Dexron HP β not Dexron VI. The 9T50 requires the HP formulation. Using Dexron VI causes increased shudder and premature wear. We keep Dexron HP in stock.
Fluid service runs $89β149. Software updates are $95β150. For mechanical issues, torque converter replacement is $900β1,500 and a full rebuild is $3,000β4,200 installed.
