Expert Ford Fusion transmission service in Chicago. Free computer diagnostic, lifetime warranty on rebuilds, all years.
2006β2009: 5-speed automatic (5F35) on 2.3L I4. 2010β2012: 6-speed automatic (6F35) on 2.5L I4 and 3.0L V6. 2013β2020: 6-speed automatic (6F35) on 1.5L/2.5L I4. 2013β2020: 6-speed automatic (6F50) on 2.0L EcoBoost AWD. 2014β2020: e-CVT on Fusion Hybrid/Energi (Atkinson-cycle hybrid).
The 6F35 in Fusion is one of the most commonly repaired Ford FWD transmissions. Solenoid failures are frequently repaired without a full rebuild ($450β750). For TCC shudder on EcoBoost models, Mercon LV fluid exchange is the first step. Full rebuild becomes necessary when clutch packs are damaged from driving through solenoid failure symptoms. The e-CVT hybrid unit requires hybrid-specific service procedures.
All 6F35 and 6F50 use Mercon LV. Never use Dexron or generic ATF β the friction modifiers differ. Fusion Hybrid e-CVT uses specific Ford Hybrid eCVT fluid. Change every 40,000 miles.
Solenoid repair: 1β2 days. Full 6F35 rebuild: 2β3 days. Hybrid eCVT: 3β4 days.

Harsh 1-2 on the 6F35 is almost always solenoid 1 failure. It's one of the most common Ford repairs we do. Often repairable for $450β750 without a full rebuild β get a free diagnostic first.
The 6F50 is a more robust unit than the 6F35. It handles the EcoBoost's power well, but the AWD pump develops wear if fluid is neglected. Change every 40,000 miles.
The hybrid eCVT makes different sounds than a conventional automatic β some mechanical whine during the transition between EV and engine power is normal. Abnormal would be a grinding or metal-on-metal noise. Get a diagnostic if you're concerned.
For a Fusion with a 6F35 failure, a rebuild at our shop is $1,500β2,000 and comes with a lifetime warranty. Used transmissions typically come with 90 days. Rebuild is almost always the better value.
A properly rebuilt 6F35 with new solenoids, clutches, and seals regularly lasts 150,000+ additional miles. We back it with a lifetime warranty.
