CVT: First check if Nissan extended warranty covers your VIN (many 2013 - 2017 Altima CVTs are covered to 84k/7yr). Outside coverage: fluid service if shudder is early-stage; rebuild or replacement if belt failure has occurred. Rebuild ($2,800 - 3,600) is usually preferred over a used CVT (unknown history).
All Altima CVT: Nissan NS-3 CVT fluid - change every 30,000 miles. Critical maintenance.
Fluid service: same day. CVT rebuild/replacement: 2 - 3 business days.
Fluid service and inspection complete the same day. Solenoid or sensor replacement: 1 day. Torque converter or seal repair: 2 - 3 days. Full rebuild with road test: 4 - 6 days. Time estimates assume parts in stock - call (312) 626-8759 to verify availability for your specific vehicle.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
Many 2013 - 2017 Altimas are covered to 84k miles/84 months. Call the dealer with your VIN. If covered, that repair is free. If outside coverage, call us.
That's the CVT entering heat-protection mode - it severely limits acceleration to prevent belt failure from overheating. It's a serious warning sign. Get it diagnosed before the belt fails completely.
Rebuild is usually the better choice - a rebuilt unit gets new belt, pulleys, seals, and fresh fluid. A remanufactured replacement is also good. A used CVT from a salvage yard is risky - you don't know why it was removed.
2 - 3 business days. We stock Altima CVT rebuild kits.
Get a diagnostic immediately. We can assess the belt condition. Many units at 95k without fluid changes show wear but aren't fully failed yet - a fluid service may extend life. But don't wait.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
