XK Commander (2006 - 2010): 5-speed automatic (545RFE) on 3.7L V6 and 4.7L V8. XK Commander (2006 - 2010): 5-speed automatic (545RFE) on 5.7L Hemi V8. All Commander: Quadra-Trac I or Quadra-Trac II 4WD with NV245 transfer case.
The Commander shares its drivetrain entirely with the Grand Cherokee XK - identical 545RFE transmission, identical failure modes, identical repair procedures. Solenoid pack replacement is the most common repair. When the solenoid pack fails, check the pressure switch manifold for cracks or leaks as well - replacing one without the other often results in return visits.
545RFE uses Mopar ATF+4. Never substitute Dexron or generic ATF. Change every 30,000 miles.
Solenoid pack: 1 - 2 days. Full rebuild: 3 - 4 days. Transfer case rebuild: 2 days.
Fluid service and inspection complete the same day. Solenoid or sensor replacement: 1 day. Torque converter or seal repair: 2 - 3 days. Full rebuild with road test: 4 - 6 days. Time estimates assume parts in stock - call (312) 626-8759 to verify availability for your specific vehicle.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
545RFE solenoid pack failure - very common on Commander. Limp mode (stuck in 2nd) is the signature symptom. Solenoid pack replacement: $600 - 900.
Identical - same 545RFE, same parts, same repair procedures and pricing.
TCC shudder - common on Hemi-powered Commander. Fluid exchange first, then torque converter inspection if shudder persists.
3 - 4 business days.
If the body is solid and the engine is running well, yes. The Commander chassis is the same as Grand Cherokee - capable of 250k+ miles with maintenance.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
