2001 - 2007: 5-speed automatic (U151E/U151F) on V6 FWD/AWD. 2008 - 2013: 6-speed automatic (U660E) on 3.5L V6; 5-speed on 4-cyl. 2014 - 2019: 6-speed automatic (U660E) on 3.5L V6 and Hybrid CVT on hybrid. 2020 - 2024: 8-speed automatic (UA80E/UB80E) on 3.5L V6. Hybrid: e-CVT (eCVT) on all hybrid models (2006 - present).
The U660E in Highlander is a reliable unit when fluid is maintained, but solenoid wear is predictable after 80k miles in Chicago's stop-and-go traffic. Valve body solenoid replacement is often possible without a full rebuild. Hybrid eCVT repairs require hybrid-safe procedures and different tooling.
U660E and UA80E use Toyota ATF WS (World Standard). Hybrid eCVT uses Toyota Hybrid CVT Fluid. Change every 40,000 miles. Do not use generic ATF.
Solenoid service: 1 - 2 days. Full rebuild: 3 - 4 days. Hybrid eCVT: 3 - 5 days.
Fluid service and inspection complete the same day. Solenoid or sensor replacement: 1 day. Torque converter or seal repair: 2 - 3 days. Full rebuild with road test: 4 - 6 days. Time estimates assume parts in stock - call (312) 626-8759 to verify availability for your specific vehicle.
Every vehicle needs diagnosis before anyone can promise a repair path. These are the situations we help organize before you decide what to do next.
Tell us when it happens, whether reverse still works, and if warning lights are on. A scan and fluid check come before guessing at a rebuild.
Fluid condition, leak location, and driving distance matter. If the vehicle is slipping badly or overheating, towing may be the safer next step.
A failed solenoid, valve body, converter, or internal clutch problem can lead to very different repair paths. The goal is a clear diagnosis and written estimate.
U660E solenoid failure - typically solenoid A or B. Often repairable for $550 - 900 without a full rebuild. Get a free diagnostic.
Every 40,000 miles with Toyota ATF WS. The 'lifetime fluid' claim is not realistic for Chicago driving conditions.
Possibly - eCVT belt wear produces a whining noise. Get a diagnostic to distinguish normal hybrid power management sounds from actual wear.
3 - 4 business days.
Yes - Toyota's AWD coupling is durable, but it needs fluid service every 30,000 miles. Neglected coupling fluid causes the binding and vibration many owners report.
Same-day appointments available. Honest estimates, no surprises. We've been doing this since 1987.
